These adorable plants aren't just for the Holiday Season! Also known as a Norfolk island Pine (or by its botanical name: Araucaria heterophylla) Norfolks make a great houseplant all year long. Interestingly enough, and despite their common name, these aren't a member of the Pine Tree family at all, and are wholly tropicals.
Water: These pines do not like to dry out completely. Water thoroughly when the top of the soil feels dry to touch. Always ensure excess water is able to drain away.
Light: Loves bright, indirect sunlight. Can handle a few hours of direct sunlight a day.
Soil: Use a well draining potting soil, one containing bark is ideal.
Humidity: These little guys love humidity. Keep them in the bathroom or near the humidifier, especially during those dry winter months.
Fertilizer: Fertilize once a month throughout growing season using a water soluble fertilizer with a high first number (high nitrogen content.) Do not fertilize in winter.
